Sorry if this has been answered, I couldn't find the answer.

I want a script to run permanently, so I'd have thought a scheduled task would be best in case there is server maintenance which stops some consoles from running.

If I set a scheduled task going, hat happens if it is still running? I'm hoping the answer will be nothing happens and the scripts is just left to ran as it was?

We don't keep scheduled tasks running indefinitely. Depending on the load on our system we may terminate them as early as an hour after they were started (we don't do this very often though) So it's best if your scheduled task doesn't rely on running for longer than an hour and then use multiple scheduled tasks to ensure that one is always running. If you click on help in the top menu, you'll find an article about ensuring that only one task of a particular type is running at any one time.
