pythonanywhere down

I am getting a lot of I/O issues and a lot of wsgi.py has been touched

2024-10-20 18:22:36 Sun Oct 20 18:22:36 2024 - *** /var/www/www_XXXXXXXXX_com_wsgi.py has been touched... grace them all !!! *** 2024-10-20 18:22:36 ...gracefully killing workers... 2024-10-20 18:22:36 Gracefully killing worker 2 (pid: 3)... 2024-10-20 18:22:36 Gracefully killing worker 3 (pid: 8)...

A lot of pages (web, files, and even console) are instable, and unreachable

Also the main site seems to be up and down and I got frequent error on https://www.pythonanywhere.com/:

Something went wrong :-( Something went wrong while trying to load this site; please try again later.

The "Gracefully killing worker N" and "xxxx_wsgi.py has been touched" are expected. We move your web app to different servers from time to time to ensure availability of your app. You shouldn't see any downtime when this happens as we start your web app on the second server before we shut it down on the first.

For the errors on the PythonAnywhere site, do you know when you were seeing the errors? I'm not aware of any issue at the time you posted your comment

We had about 40 minutes of downtime around that time with multiple instances ofwsgi.py has been touched, at the end we had to manualy restart the server (log reading continuously that some proces was supposed to do Harakiri). Very disruptive. We continue to have I/O errors but it doesn't seem to have other effects.

Apologies, I think that my colleague must have been looking at the wrong logs when he said that we didn't have any issues -- at 18:30 UTC yesterday we did have some issues with a storage server. We've already replaced the hardware for the server in question, and we're now migrating all of the data from it to another, newer equivalent. We'll be posting some details about the issue on our blog tomorrow.
